~Rules And Combat in Rembrant~
*No public sex - take it to a private chat please. Fade to black if you can't avoid it being in the middle of a scene with others and role play it out later if you must. We're adults, but some of us are sensitive to that sort of storytelling, and also have children in the room who can read.
*Posts should be a minimum of 2 lines and a MAXIMUM of 10. Normal entrances should range from 3-4 lines. Here at Rembrant, we deeply prefer quality to quantity. If you can make your point in fewer lines than more, it might make for a more solid story in the long run.
~~~
*No meta-gaming
*No god-moding
*No autoing
*When there is combat, it will be determined with a pair of D20s. I will explain below.
*Death is permanent - however, a character may NOT die unless the player has given their express permission. We are weaving stories, not looking to create an arena.
~~~
*I am willing to work with players on developing their characters and their magical affinities. Rembrant is a world that has a "unique" magical system that stems from the basic four elements. New things are being learned daily, so please don't hesitate to come and ask what's possible.
*Any decisions made by the administration is final. You get a maximum of two warnings - three strikes, and you're out.
~What is meta-gaming?~
Meta-gaming is using out of character knowledge as if it were known by your character in the story.
For example, let's say you read a role play log about a character stabbing and killing someone. Your character later blackmails that character, using that log as knowledge, even though your character wouldn't know anything about the stabbing otherwise. That is meta-gaming.

~What is god-modding?~
God-modding is when a character refuses to take damage or be impeded in any way.
Everyone is vulnerable and has weaknesses - no one is immune to being harmed or death. Granted that a player does not have to let their character die - but fights can, and should, be lost every so often.
~~~
~What is autoing?~
Autoing is having your character land hits without letting the other player have a chance to respond properly.
Attacks should always be phrased as attempts, even against NPCs.
~~~
~How does combat work in Rembrant, then?~
Someone starts the fight, either the npc, another player, or so forth, and phrases their first attack attempt. From that moment, two D20's will be rolled. The first number will be the attacker's number, the second the defender's. Whichever number is higher determines whether the attack was successful or defended against.
So for example:
Esylana attacks the spider.
Esylana attack = 5, spider defense = 10.
The spider successfully dodges the attack somehow, and then turns to bite Esylana.
Spider attack = 12, Esylana defense = 3.
Esylana now has a painful bite on her finger, and brings her book down on top of the spider.
Esylana attack = 20, spider defense = 20.
(Defenders win in ties)
The spider skitters away from the oncoming book, and vanishes into a crack in the wall.
~~~
It is important to be aware of how long your character can last in combat, realistically. At some point, someone has to fall, and the story must continue. Please play accordingly, and if you have questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask Esylana.
